DIARY ENTRY #17
House Hack Diaries

I’m baaaaaaaaaaack!

It’s been a wild summer, but in a good way.

A lot has changed, and those changes have given me more time to focus on what I actually love: real estate. As part of that, the newsletter is now back in full swing along with some other exciting announcements.

Before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming, I want to catch you up on what’s been happening behind the scenes this summer.

From tech to full-time in real estate

Ignorance is bliss, they said. I’m not sure who “they” are, but they clearly didn’t have anxiety.

Long story short, I was doing well as an SEO/AEO marketing consultant. There was only one problem: I hated almost every second of it. I was constantly stressed about work, and even when things were going well, I wasn’t enjoying it.

I took a step back and looked at what actually made me feel like myself…The answer was pretty obvious!

So I finally bit the bullet and decided to become a full-time real estate agent. Although I’ve had my license for 7 years, I resisted going all-in for a long time because it felt like everyone and their mother had a real estate license. Funny enough, that ended up being part of what pushed me toward it.

There are plenty of agents, but there is a real need for people who actually understand the process to buy or sell a house, renovations, house hacking, and the financial side–especially in a market like this!

I genuinely believe I can help people navigate it better, and I’m excited to build a business around doing exactly that.

Newsletter and community

Drum roll please.

In addition to bringing back the weekly newsletter, I’m launching a real estate meetup on the South Shore of Boston (in Braintree).

The goal is simple: bring together people who are house hacking, want to start, or just want to learn more about the strategy.

We’ll cover everything from financing and renovations to finding deals, managing tenants, and growing from one house hack to the next. I’ll also bring in speakers from different corners of the industry, including lenders, contractors, agents, and fellow house hackers who can share what they’ve learned firsthand.

Basically, I want it to become a place where you can learn, meet like-minded people, and build the relationships you need to actually succeed with house hacking.

Flip or flop?

So…I forgot to tell you that I’ve been flipping a house.

The original plan was to make it a live-in flip. Somewhere along the way, we changed course and decided to flip it outright instead.

I’m really proud of how the finished product came out, and very grateful to say that we accepted an offer and are now working our way to the closing table.

There will be plenty more to come on this one, but I’ll leave you with this nugget to hold you over: the buyers requested that I replace all the nails on the deck with screws.

Yes, all of them. And no, I didn’t.

Stay tuned for a full breakdown in newsletters to come.

Come along for the wild ride

Every once in a while, you encounter a moment that feels like the start of something that can change the trajectory of your life.

That’s where I’m at right now. I don’t know exactly where this path leads, but I’m excited to pour everything I have into real estate, house hacking, and building something I genuinely care about.

I’m incredibly grateful you’re here for the ride. Thanks for following along!
